Description
Used in the Exhibit: Play by Play - A Century of L.A. Sports Photography, 1899-1989.
Beginning at age 15, Janet Evans used her "windmill in a hurricane" pace to set world records. While attending El Dorado High School in Placentia, she overcame her slight build to whip powerful Eastern Bloc competitors and win three gold medals at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. She took one more gold medal at the Barcelona Games (along with a silver medal); she still holds three world records and six American records. Here Evans chats with a friend after returning from the 1988 Olympics. Photo dated: October 2, 1988.
