Description
View of Occidental Boulevard in the Westlake area, going south toward Lafayette Park. This view is looking south from 3rd and it shows the residential street lined with palm trees and a center island also with palm trees and alternating ornate street lamps. There are roughly around 2,600 species of palms, which can live in almost every type of habitat, but most are restricted to tropical or subtropical climates. Palms are one of the most well-known and extensively cultivated plant families, and are widely used in landscaping for their exotic appearance, making them one of the most economically important plants. In this photo, three or four different types of palms are shown; possibly the Phoenix, Bactris and Washingtonia genus palms. Photo dated: January 1, 1931.
