Description: This photograph of the California State Senate was taken on Sept. 21, 1950. Goodwin "Goodie" Knight sits in the foreground, in the first row. He was elected lieutenant governor in 1946 and re-elected to the same post in 1950. He ultimately would serve as governor from 1953 to 1959. Notice the public viewing gallery full of onlookers in the upper section of the photograph.
