Photograph article dated June 24, 1961 partially reads, "The setting was Robin Hood Lake at Corriganville, Ray 'Crash' Corrigan's famous movie ranch in the Simi Valley. John Ford was directing a scene for his segment of Metro's 'How The West Was Won,' the first Cinerama feature to tell a story. Ford had assembled nearly 200 uniformed Union artillerymen, half a dozen horses, and 30 ready-to-blast cannons for the shot...The shots were for a montage of the battle of Shiloh and will be the only violence per se in Ford's segment of the picture. The director said he was treating the 20-minute segment as one of mood, a thought provoking transition sequence." Seen through the spokes of a cannon wheel are two of the actors used in the filming of the Battle of Shiloh segment of 'How the West Was Won.'; See images #00120386 through #00120393 for all photos in this series.
