Photograph caption dated January 1, 1954 reads, "The great white whale, 'Moby Dick' rises from the sea spouting spray while the skiff manned by Captain Ahab and three sailors tilts dangerously in his wake in this entry by San Pedro, the world's largest fishing port. More than 60,000 cornflowers form the deep blue sea."
