Waters, Meto and Prince In September 1905, party of friends and relatives went for a cruise of the Santa Barbara Islands on the two-masted power steamer, Avalon. William G. Waters (died 1920) purchased one half of the island, moved there in 1888 to begin ranching. Was veteran of the Civil War. In 1897, with investors, formed San Miguel Island Company.
