Photograph was edited for publication purposes. Photograph caption dated November 6, 1947 reads, "Boy says her Dagwood sandwich bewitched him." Raymond Adame, also 18, felt that Jarmillo had put him under a spell, claiming, "She made me a sandwich of potatoes, beans and macaroni, and according to our legends, she bewitched me." The intensity of Adame's feelings was so strong that it drove him to try to kidnap Jarmillo. During the attempt near 1427 E. Fourth Street, patrol officers heard Jarmillo's screams and took Adame into custody. He was booked at the Hollenbeck Station on suspicion of kidnapping. The "Dagwood sandwich" in the caption refers to the comic book character, Dagwood Bumstead, who is often drawn making large sandwiches.
