Description
“Moukden [Shenyang] street, 1909” Street scene from the then capital of Manchuria showing one of the city gates at the end of the street. ❧ Moukden was the centre for Scottish Missionary activity in the Manchuria field and a number of hospitals, schools and orphanages were built there. Dr Dugald Christie (1855-1936) is strongly associated with Moukden after being appointed to the field in 1881. It was there that he founded the Moukden Free Hospital and also the Moukden Medical College where he encouraged the education of indigenous doctors and medical staff.
