Title supplied by cataloger. In the early years of the pueblo, clergy from La Plaza Church would bless livestock to encourage health and productivity. Starting in 1930, when Olvera Street opened, the event was updated to include companion animals as well. The current tradition welcomes all animals to receive a blessing. A cow wearing a floral banner is led past the Bishop who is officiating the annual "Blessing of the Animals" event held on Olvera Street. Young musicians, members of Estudiantina Californiana, are seen together under the Bear Flag banner (left). The raised stage where the Bishop, priests, and altar boys are gathered is decorated for the Easter season with lilies.
