Photograph article dated July 15, 1963 partially reads, "Francine Shiffman took a big chance - and it paid off. The 17-year-old Northridge girl with an intense desire to be a professional singer received an offer last winter to sing with a U.S. troupe giving shows at military bases in Hawaii and Asia. The job would have meant a lot of experience in singing before large audiences. But she turned it down. She wanted to win the solo vocalist contest in the Battle of the Bands at Hollywood Bowl, and she did just that." Francine practices vocal lessons. Her mother, Mrs. Sidney Shiffman, accompanies.
