"119" and "This does not show to advantage Mr. Hasses place, the fence hides the beautiful flowers, shrubbery and tropical trees that beautify the yard."--text, handwritten on verso. "From Godfrey's Photographic View Rooms Los Angeles, Cal."--text, printed on verso. Title and date transcribed from item. Jacob Haas (-1889) was a businessman who helped found the grocery house of Hellman Haas & Co. in Los Angeles; his brother Abraham Haas (1847-1921) joined the company in December 1873. A copy of this image in the C.C. Pierce Collection at the Huntington Library identifies the property as being on Main Street.
