Description
1989-1239. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 24. In the foreground is a paved street and on the left of the photo is the corner of the street; on the corner lot stands a two story house with basement below; stairs on the right side lead to a covered porch supported by 4 thin round supports; under the porch the entrance is on the right and two tall vertical windows are to its left; on second floor are three tall windows; decorative beading appears below the flat roof with a very small roof comb; on the left can be seen the side of the house with two windows on each floor and above the roofline see two chimneys; the trunk of a bare branched tree stands on the corner; to its side is a wooden fence; behind the principal building other houses can be seen; on the right side of the photo is a utility pole and a couple of other structures. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Erected and owned in 1852 by A. Frirson. Was once used as a hospital in the early days."
