Power plants of Southern California Edison's Big Creek-San Joaquin River system, photo dated July 14, 1928. The Power House on the right generates 88,000 horsepower and is one of the original plants built here. The smaller and more modern Power House on the left generates 120,000 horsepower. The newer plant has a head of water pressure equivalent to a height of over 2,400 feet, the highest for a plant of its size anywhere in the world. The five plants in the system generate a total of 460,000 horsepower.
