Description
Photograph used for an article dated July 12, 1955.
Mud splatters Ralph Hamlin (left at wheel), his unknown companion and their car while racing in the Phoenix road race of 1912. Two huge headlights stare ahead at the mud road. California license plate 1147 sits below the crankshaft and chains are on the back tires. The caption reads, "Winning a bicycle race at the age of 16 set Hamlin off in the auto business. After winning the race, he established a bicycle repair shop here. Above, he is shown at wheel of his Franklin during Phoenix road race in 1912."
