Description
View 1 (1989-1283). Old Pavilion at 6th & M street -- view 2 (1989-1284). Northeast corner of 6th & M street. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 36. A view of a building being demolished; 7 facade bays are visible from the left to the right; all bays have large rectangular empty windows on 2nd floor; on 1st floor an arched opening is in 2nd bay from left; at right of 7th bay is a section that juts in front of the other bays - on its 2nd floor are two rectangular windows and on 3rd floor are two tall arched windows; 2 saw horses at left and piles of rubble on sidewalk in front. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Erected in 1859.Torn down in 1922. Old Agricultural Hall or Old Pavilion, Northeast corner of 6th & M street, was completed and open to the public, on August 13th, 1859, after the corner-stone had been laid July 1st, of that year. 'Mr. M.F. Butler was the builder' of this commondious and elegant building, erected by the people of Sacramento City and County for the accomodations of the State Fairs of the State Agricultural Society until 1883..."
