Description
Photograph of Santa Monica's Palisades Park, looking north, ca.1908. A broad beach runs along the waterline at left. Bordering the beach is the two-lane Pacific Coast Highway, and running parallel to the highway is a railroad. There are steep cliffs at right, the same palisades that give their name to the park. There is a pier jutting out into the water at center, and another incomplete pier is in the foreground. The shore juts into the water in the distance, and this land is marked by steep mountains rather than cliffs.
