Description
Bloch was born in Geneva, Switzerland in1880 and came to the United States in 1916. He was director of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, 1925-1930 and spent most of the following decade in Switzerland where he composed "Sacred Service" before returning to the US in 1939. In 1941, Bloch moved to Agate Beach, Oregon and lived there until his death in 1959. He taught and lectured (mostly summers) at the University of California, Berkeley until 1951. In 1952 he was named "Professeur Eméritus de l'Université de Berkeley," even though he was not a full-time professor.
