Photograph article dated April 27, 1963 partially reads, "In recent months Los Angeles' seven existing VHF television stations have been joined by two UHF (Ultra High Frequency) stations KMEX-TV, Ch. 34, and KIIX, Ch. 22. The former is designed to serve the Los Angeles area's 1.2 million Spanish-speaking people. The latter is aimed primarily at 750,000 Negroes, who comprise 16 per cent of the area's total population. In order to receive either station it is necessary for viewers to purchase a converter for their present sets, and in most cases a UHF aerial. In addition, new all-channel receiving sets are now on the market. Cost of installing the converters is $30 to $35. The new all-channel sets are available for as low as $139." Photograph depicts Essie Randall, one of five KIIX 'kittens' who do commercials and act as station hostesses. She is posing with a television set.
