V1p48a In PHOTO ALBUM-VAULT: ** fc917.9461 A3, Vol. I, page 48 top. This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco." View of the Baldwin Hotel looking north across Market St. Powell Street at left. Street almost deserted, except for numerous carriages pulled up at hotel sidewalk. Text under photo: "Very fine photograph of the Baldwin Hotel taken in 1879. The theatre entrance is seen about midway from the corner on Market Street. The entrance to the stage was located on Ellis St. The Theatre was opened in 1876 by Barry Sullivan, an Irish actor in the character of "Richard III" in play of that name."
