Description
Typed caption on back: "Dr. Lee de Forest. Photograph of the late Dr. Lee de Forest shown holding one of the first "Audion" tubes he invented in 1906. In 1912 it was found that these three-electrode tubes could amplify a signal as well as oscillate. It is this discovery that is credited with launching present-day radio communications systems. Many of these early electronic tubes can be seen at the Foothill Electronics Museum."
