The Insectary Division of the Commission of Horticulture was responsible for collecting, breeding and disseminating predaceous insects as a means of controlling harmful insects. As part of that work, they collected and disseminated the native species of ladybird (ladybug) beetle or coccinellids, notably Hippodamia convergens.
