Description
A natural shell trumpet, decorated with incised and painted Aztec glyphs and traditional images on the exterior surface. For millennia, various sizes of conch shell trumpets (known as quiquiztli or atecocolli in Náhuatl ) were used for calls to prayer, acknowledging the wind or four directions, for timekeeping, or during combat. They are now considered part of a contemporary Aztec dancer's regalia.
