Description
Framed pen and ink drawing. The image depicts the exterior of an adobe house located at 205 West Blithedale, which has been referred to as the oldest house in Mill Valley, established 1840. It is often called "The Old Adobe." However, the drawing is framed and the matte prevents looking into whether there is a title and artist signature. The back of the frame says "Oldest Mill Valley Home, established 1840." Records indicate it was a small, simple adobe that was expanded in the 20th Century. It is known to be the oldest structure in Mill Valley and may have been built as a shelter for Mexican hunters during John Reed's time in the 1830's. It is also known as the "Milkhouse in 1880" because at some early point it was a milk cooler room for the Blithedale Hotel and was later converted into a dining room. It was part of a Tamalpais High School student art exhibit.
