2008-0949 CHARTS, DIAGRAMS, TABLES, ETC.: CALIFORNIA STATE LIBRARY ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS Early presentation drawings showing front and east side elevation of Library. Front shows pedestals but no statues flanking the front doors. Three statues found above the doors on the portico. Statues shown flanking east side door. "Weeks & Day, Feb. 3" -- signature in lower right corner. In 1914, a State Bond Act was passed for the purpose of building the California State Library and Office Building One. In 1917, the contract was awarded to Weeks & Day, a San Francisco firm. The firm's architect, Charles Peter Weeks, and its engineer, William P. Day, signed the contract on Nov. 30, 1918. Working drawings were completed in Feb. 25, 1920, and the construction began on the State Library March 1924.
