Photograph of specimens of various curious animals, "California Curiosities," found in southern California, particularly the dry desert-like areas. Pictured are the tarantula hawk (Pempilus Tasmasus), the horned toad (Chrynesema), the scorpion (Arachnidae Scorpia), the tarantula (Mygalo Konja), and the trap-door spider (Cleniza Californica). Tarantulas prey on rattlesnakes and the little tarantula hawk preys on the tarantula.
