Exterior view of a stone Scottish castle in Ben Lomond, 14 miles north of Santa Cruz. It was started circa 1930 by the late Robert Howden, a tile manufacturer who came to America from Canonbie, Scotland. In 1946 it was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. George Weatherly. At that time it was a five-bedroom unfinished castle on a bend in the San Lorenzo River. They added nine rooms and turrets, towers, disappearing stairways and balconies. They also diverted the river and made a moat. The castle is furnished with Scottish furniture and paintings.
