Photograph caption dated December 31, 1956 reads “Mrs. Effie Evelyn Atles, 29, is wheeled out of her Tujunga home on stretcher after her husband, Henry, 31, allegedly beat her about the hear with ball-peen hammer. Mrs. Atles was in critical condition in General Hospital, her husband was booked on suspicion of assault with intent to commit murder.”
