Photograph caption dated October 3, 1956 reads, "When San Fernando High takes the field Friday night against Westchester in the season's opener these Tigers probably will be in the starting lineup. Coach Orlie Schmidt's San Fernando crew, sprinkled with several veterans and spearheaded by all-Valley League back Ron Kiczinski, is rated a dark horse for the championship. San Fernando ruled the loop roost in 1953 and 1954, winning the Los Angeles city title in '53. Orange and Gold rooters are hoping their colorbearers will return to the lofty peak their teams once enjoyed in the heyday of George Pupich and Carl Ketchie." Pictured are, left to right, Mike Johnson, Right Halfback; Bob Heigold, Fullback, and Ron Kizcinski, Left Halfback. See images 00162642 through 00162644 for additional photos in this series.
