Description
"Swatow Mission Hospital: a small patient." The English Presbyterian Mission founded a hospital in Shantou in 1867. With local financial support a new, larger hospital was opened in 1878. In 1916 a new block of private wards was built. At the end of World War II the hospital was found to have been gutted but was repaired and decorated and re-opened in 1946.
