Description
Photograph of a birdseye view of Santa Monica, looking south along the coast from the Palisades toward the Venice Pier, 1938. The Pacific coast runs from the right center toward the upper left of the image, with the ocean filling the upper right corner of the image. To the left of the ocean is a strip of beach, covered by beachgoers, and bordered on its left by rows of parked automobiles. A paved road runs parallel to the coastline, separating the parked automobiles from a group of commercial buildings that occupy the lower left corner. These buildings bear signs including "Ballantynes", "Lee Rose Casino Lunch", "Bath House", and "The Rite Spot. Chili and Chowder".
