Description
Photograph was edited for publication purposes
Photograph caption dated June 22, 1955 reads "Look, no hands. Pat takes off from steps in big jump, lands on hard cement without pain. Special construction of padded socket and shock absorbing qualities of foot allow him freedom of action unusual with other artificial limbs." The article partially reads "'Hush there, baby, daddy's going to make you a new leg.' And with a combination of love and engineering skill, that's exactly what Herbert H. Vance, a North Hollywood mechanical engineer, did."; See images #00142846 through #00142849 for all photos in this series.
