The Barker Bros. building looks over the dismantling of the Hoffman building. A crane from Pacific Crane Rigging is parked in the middle of the pillars, close to the excavation pit. Photo caption reads: "Destruction for progress. It looks like results of wartime bombing, but it's actually a scene of modern progress, this view of the Paul G. Hoffman building at Wilshire boulevard and Seventh street. Wrecking crews have left only shell and supporting pillars in their work to clear the way for new Hotel Statler at the site. The $20,000,000 hotel and office building is expected to be finished in 1952". Photo dated: Aug. 11, 1950.
