Description
Photograph is a portrait of Jim Daher during his struggle with AIDS.
Written on sleeve holding photograph: "Jim Daher." Daher was a client of ARIS, an organization in the 1980's that provided housing and some care to AIDS patients. There was a struggle between ARIS and the press over patient privacy in 1986, and Jim was the only client of theirs the press was allowed to photograph. He also allowed the San Jose Mercury to document his struggle against AIDS. See Ted Sahl, "From Community to Closet"; (2002), p. 207.
