Description: View of the C.A. Larsen departing the Los Angeles Harbor. Commander Richard E. Byrd was utilizing the whaling ship for his first exploration of Antarctica and the South Pole, via New Zealand. A tugboat is visible next to the ship. This image was taken the day of Byrd's departure on October 10, 1928.
