Photograph caption dated April 2, 1957 reads, "Modern-day thoroughfare - San Fernando road in San Fernando is shown as it appears today. bustling, thriving downtown district now extends out of sight. In addition to community's fast business and residential growth, city prospers from motorists who stop on their way into and out of San Fernando Valley." Signs visible on the right include Smart Shop, Empire Fabrics, The Toggery, Sunset Cafe, Town Sport Shop, S&K Liquor, a hotel, Music Center, Jan's(?) Jewelers, Town House, Whelan Drugs, Western Union, a Western Auto Supply billboard, another liquor store, Harry's Kooler Keg Cafe, Toys, and in the distance, Firestone tires and the Pete Andres tower building from image #00124944. On the left, visible signs include Victory Market, Red Goose Shoes, Monterey Gift Shop, De Long Jewelers, an optometrist, Porter Hardware (partially obscured), a King Drugs, another hotel (partially obscured). Christmas decorations obscure many of the remaining signs and awnings.
