Description
The "Days of '49" celebration, a citywide homage to Sacramento's Gold Rush past, took place March 23-28, 1922. Pictured are members of the Whiskerino Club, a few of the hundreds of Sacramentans who let their mustaches grow for the celebration. In the center of the front row is Clyde Seavey, Sacramento's first City Manager and "Chief Whiskerino." The Club awarded a prize for the longest beard, with honors going to Hans Langseth of North Dakota, whose beard measured some 17 feet in length.
