This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco."
Text written under photo: "Japanese Training Ship." The ship's name is "Taigei Maru," four-masted and bark-rigged, but with a funnel indicating an engine. The ship is painted white, has a launch drawn up alongside and is hoisting its anchor.
