Photograph was edited for publication purposes. Photograph caption dated May 2, 1960 reads, ""Runaway Cheryl Crane and 'All of Us Who Love You'. This recent photo, heretofore unpublished, shows runaway Cheryl Crane with her father, Stephen Crane; mother, actress Lana Turner and, right, Lana's mother, Mrs. Mildred Turner. Everyone appeared happy at this family get-together. Today, the Herald-Express prints and open letter from father to daughter, urging her to call him. She and two other girls escaped last week from El Retiro School for Girls."" Notation written on the verso, ""Stephen Crane, Cheryl Crane, Lana Turner, Mrs. Mildred Turner"" Supervision of Crane had fallen under the Juvenile Court following the stabbing death of Turner's boyfriend, Johnny Stampanato, which Crane had confessed to. The Court had ordered Crane to attend and reside at El Retiro which was a State-run school. At this time, the Court maintained supervision of Crane but agreed to a release from the State run El Retiro School for Girls in San Fernando.
