Here is one image in a series, showing the condition of the Jergins Trust building's pedestrian tunnel, which ran under Ocean Boulevard and provided access to the Pike and beach, via the Jergins Trust building at 100 E. Ocean Boulevard. The tunnel opened in 1928 and was closed to the public in 1967. For a short time, the Pike used the tunnel for storage. The Jergins Trust building was demolished in 1988. The Jergins tunnel became city property in May of 2011, and is being considered for redevelopment. This print shows the arcade and two remaining columns with marble bases, decorated with art nouveau embellishments. Bas relief panels are visible in upper center section of the print. Piles of boxed civil defense materials are noted at left. A painted mural can be seen in the upper left quadrant of the image. Natural light is seen in the upper background, coming in from the street level. DATE NOTES: Noted on image back. ORIG. IMAGE: 8"" x 10"" B&W glossy print. NEGATIVE: No. KEYWORDS: Urban, renewal.
