The ground breaking ceremony was for an Alpha Beta market, located at Nordhoff Street and Reseda Boulevard, designed to have a full basement which would be used as both a fallout shelter and as a community services room.
Photograph caption dated September 28, 1961 reads, "Taking part in shopping center groundbreaking in Northridge are (front, from left) William Fisher, honorary mayor of community; Arthur Lacey of Alpha Beta Markets and Assemblyman Lou Cusanovich while George Montrose, Nick Ziener and Byron Maybond of Northridge Chamber of Commerce watch."
