Description
Photograph included in the Exhibit: The Industry in Our Backyard: Television Production in Los Angeles 1940s-1980s.
Pictured is Mercedes Gaffney's Kitchen, which is seen Monday through Friday, from 1 to 2 p.m. on the ABC Television Network. It shows Mercedes and Rex May, known as the Man Around the Kitchen, as they do their show. TV cameras are in foreground as well as boom with microphone that picks up what they say. She prepares and cooks food. If something - for instance, a pie - that takes maybe two hours or so to cook, it is cooked before hand. Then she prepares one before your eyes and then shows you the finished product. Photograph dated December 12, 1952.
