Title supplied by cataloger. A tall chimney, a small brick structure, and rubble are all that are left of the Raymond Hotel after it burned down in April, 1895. Two men stand in front of the ruins and hold their bicycles. Located in South Pasadena, the Raymond Hotel was the first major resort hotel of the San Gabriel Valley and was only opened from December to April. It was built by Mr. Walter Raymond of Raymond & Whitcomb Travel Agency of Boston, Mass. and sat atop Bacon Hill which lies between Pasadena and South Pasadena. Bacon Hill was renamed Raymond Hill with the opening of the hotel in 1886. After the first hotel burned down, a second Raymond Hotel opened in 1903.
