Standing on the center right, Herbert K. Sorrell, president of CSU (Confederation of Studios Union), sporting a black eye, talks with Deputy Chief Henry Eaton. He said Columbia was chosen as a site for mass picketing when he flipped a coin to decide whether it would be that studio or Paramount. Eventually many of the major studios, including Columbia and Paramount, would be affected by this strike. This strike which took place in 1945, was between two unions, CSU (Confederation of Studios Union) workers and the producers union IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and Moving Picture Machine Operators of the United States and Canada). Photo dated: Saturday, October 13, 1945.
