Description
Photograph of a drawing by Edward Vischer depicting the ruins of the Mission Nuestra Señora de la Soledad as seen from a distance, ca.1873. Horses, a dog and an ox are visible in the left foreground, with what appears to be a herd of some other type of animal grazing in the valley to the center of the image where the modest adobe barns of the mission can be seen, several of them to the left with their roofs collapsed. Mountains are visible in the background. The shadow of a tree stretches in from outside the frame. The text below the image reads: "Ruins of the Mission Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, in the Salinas Plains", "Property of the Soberanis (1873)", and "© Vischer".
