With decorative initials and tailpieces. This copy lacks title page. Preface dated September 4, 1609 edition determined based on a comparison of cataloging copy of other editions in French this copy is most likely the 1628 edition. Maps first issued in Mercator's "Atlas" of 1595 and in subsequent editions. A previous edition in French of the Atlas was issued in 1613 under the title "Gerardi Mercatoris L'Atlas ou meditations cosmographiques de la fabrique du monde ..." a later one issued by H. Hondius in 1633 was called "Gerardi Mercatoris et I. Hondii Atlas ou representation du monde universel ..." Includes index. Includes Latin epigrams, and an engraved portrait of Mercator and Hondius with globes, map and scientific instruments. Bound and restored in the 1980s in modern leather and in custom box by conservator Max Adjerian, CLSU.
