Photographic portrait of James Marshall, [s.d.]. The man can be seen from the chest up slightly turned to the left. The man is balding with white hair and a white beard. He is visible wearing a dark three-piece suit with a bowtie. A caption underneath the image reads, "Jas. W. Marshall". Mr. Marshall discovered gold at Coloma on the twenty-fourth of June, 1848. Photoprint reads: "discovered gold at Coloma -- June 19, 1848".
