This is a photograph taken "after Sunday Mass at the Korean Mission in Fushun. The small room buzzes with study groups. The picture shows Fr. Walsh, instructing the men, the school teacher the boys and a Korean Christian woman helps her neighbor. One woman is studying alone, while Sister M. Andre helps another." Born in Connecticut, Fr. Walsh came to Maryknoll in 1931 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1933. He was assigned to work in Japan but after six months transferred to Maryknoll's Japanese and Korean mission in Antung, Manchukuo where he served for eight years. During World War II he was interned by the Japanese and repatriated to the United States from Fushun, Manchukuo in 1942 aboard the "Gripsholm". In 1945 he worked with the Japanese in the relocation camp at Heart Mountain, Wyoming. He spent the rest of his days working in Japan and Korea.
