Description
Photograph of a view of the monument of Luis Wolf, Temecula, ca.1900. The tomb-like monument is surrounded by a post-and-rail fence with ornate posts. To the right, a man leans in on a section of fence that appears to have been mended with scrap lumber. Inside, a tall obelisk is shown in front, with a long slab visible stretching behind it. The inscription reads "In memory of Luis Wolf, born in Alsase, July 27, 1833. Died September 13, 1887". Picture file card reads "Howard says he was a hotel keeper in Temecula and had a son, Charles, in St. Vincent's College. The monument is entirely alone and presents an uncanny appearance in the gather shadows of evening. Has a commanding view of the valley below, out in a cattle pasture where only coyotes prowl".
