Description
Presidential candidates, from left to right, Gustavo Anzueto Vielman of the Nationalist Authentic Center, Alejandro Maldonado Aguirre of the National Renewal and Guatemalan Christian Democracy parties, Mario Sandoval Alarcón of the National Liberation Movement, and Lionel Sisniega Otero, Sandoval's running mate, sit at a press conference as Sisniega Otero speaks into the microphone. Standing behind them is a large group of men standing against the wall. In front of them is a large group of journalists and photojournalists documenting the day's events. The three candidates and running mate held a press conference to claim voter fraud in the 1982 elections against Ángel Aníbal Guevara. A military coup prevented Guevara from assuming power and installed a three-man junta headed by General Efraín Ríos Montt.
