Description
Photograph was edited for publication purposes.
Photograph article dated January 4, 1957 reads, "Moral of the story: never race out of a market across the street from a police station. It all started this way. Det. Dick Ruble and Officer Fred Cochran were making out reports at the North Hollywood police substation on Chandler boulevard near Lankershim boulevard. Looking out the door, Ruble spotted a young man running across a market parking lot with two paper sacks. A carton of cigarettes dropped from one of the bags. The youth jumped into a car and sped away. Ruble started to note the license number but saw the plate was covered with white cloth. The policemen jumped into a patrol car and raced after the suspects' auto. Cocran [sic] fired a shot which struck the other car in the right fender, bringing it to a halt. Police found $50 worth of stolen cigarettes in the car. Booked on suspicion of burglary were Cyrus A. Hasty, 28, and his brother, Franklin, 23, of 11830 Saticoy St., North Hollywood, and Joaquin L. Duarte, 22, or 13690 Judd St., Pacoima." Pictured is Joaquin L. Duarte. See images 00147037 through 00147039 for all photos in this series.
